Frequently asked questions

Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often about Strathalbyn Self Storage. If you cannot find what you need, get in touch and we will be happy to help.

Getting started

How do I book a storage unit?

Send us an enquiry or give us a call and tell us what you need to store and for how long. We will suggest a unit size, confirm availability and pricing, then help you complete the paperwork so you can move in.

Is there a minimum period?

We aim to keep things flexible. Talk to us about how long you think you will need and we will explain the current options and pricing.

Do I need to visit before I book?

You do not have to, many people are happy to book over the phone or by email. If you prefer to see the site first, we can arrange a time to show you around.

Units and access

What size units do you have?

We have a range of unit sizes, from smaller spaces suited to boxes and a few pieces of furniture through to larger units that can hold the contents of a house or business stock. When you enquire, we will help you match a unit size to what you are storing.

Where are the sites located?

We have two facilities in Strathalbyn, within about 500 metres of each other:

  • Dry Plains Road site – 10 Dry Plains Road, Strathalbyn
  • Forrest Road site – 24 Forrest Road, Strathalbyn

What are your access hours?

Both of our sites usually offer access from 6.00am to 9.00pm, seven days a week. If you need to confirm specific times, please contact us.

Can I drive up to my unit?

Many units have easy drive up access, with wide driveways for cars, utes and trailers. Let us know what you are storing and the type of vehicle you use so we can recommend a suitable unit.

Payments and terms

How often do I make payment?

Storage is charged in regular advance payments. When you enquire, we will confirm the current rates and payment schedule for the unit you choose.

How do I end my storage agreement?

If you are ready to move out, contact us and we will talk you through the notice period and final steps. Once your unit is empty and left clean, we will close your account.

What payment methods?

We offer simple, cashless payment options. We will let you know the available methods when you set up your agreement and help you choose what suits you best.

What you can store

What items are not allowed?

For safety and legal reasons, you cannot store things such as:

  • Fuel, gas bottles and other flammable or explosive materials
  • Illegal or stolen goods
  • Perishable food
  • Animals or living creatures
  • Firearms, ammunition or weapons

If you are not sure whether something is allowed, please contact us and we will advise you.

What can I store in my unit?

Most household goods, furniture, boxes, tools, business stock and similar items are suitable for self storage. If you are unsure about a particular item, ask us before you bring it in.

Security and insurance

How secure are the sites?

Our facilities are gated and kept locked when not in use, with solid unit doors and quality locks. We keep the sites neat and well maintained so you can feel confident storing your belongings.

Can you help me work out insurance?

We do not sell insurance or provide financial advice. We can, however, explain how storage works and point you in the right direction if you are unsure what to ask your insurer.

Is insurance included?

No. Your storage fee covers the unit itself, not the items stored inside. You are responsible for arranging insurance for your belongings, usually through your home and contents insurer or a local broker.
